ROSENBERG in WETTOLSHEIM
Clayey limestone from the Oligocene mainly chalk, but with sandstone or flinty substrates.
Gentle to moderate slope facing East-north-east .
Rosenberg is a terroir of fairly deep soil, with limestone rocks covered with small parcels of sandstone or flint.
The limestone confers power, the clay gives fatness, the sandstone & flint, minerality, subtlety and breeding.
This is a vineyard whose E-N-E exposure confers finesse and elegance. It is caressed by northerly winds when they are present. |

LEIMENTHAL in WETTOLSHEIM
Oligocene clayey limestone, slabs of chalk in strata.
Gently East sloping.
Leimenthal is a terroir whose soil is a yellowish brown at the surface, thanks to the presence of clay, and to slabs of chalk at a depth of between 20 and 50 cm, which are broken up and surrounded by clay. The roots of the vine, by covering the lower surface of the slabs gather all its effect. The way this shows up in the wine, is to give a slight reduction, noticeable when young, but which gives structure and is finally integrated into the wine.
This is a powerful and silky wine, with aromas of wild peach (white fruits) and the smoky scent of Pinot Gris, and roses (gewurz). The terroir dominates the varieties grown on it. |

PFLECK in WETTOLSHEIM
Oligocene silty limestone, deep and with few stones.
Gently sloping East.
Pfleck is a very brown soil, rich in trace elements..
The chalk gives power, the silt, expressivity, harmony and structure.
It gives wines with smoky hints. |

CLOS SAND in WETTOLSHEIM
Micaceous granite.
Southerly steeply sloping.
With a fully southerly exposure and a steep slope, this clos, which benefits from an exceptional eco-system is surrounded by a deciduous forest of oak, acacia and cherry. It is thus protected from the wind and blessed with a climate uniquely well suited to ripen grapes.
This clos, situated near the top of the Grand Cru Steingrübler, has the advantage of slower ripening, and hence more marked acids. The granite gives notes of exotic citrus fruits, and above all great finesse and purity. It is the acidity which gives it its remarkable length. |

HERRENWEG in TURCKHEIM
Alluvial fans from the Fecht, Quarternary gravels on the Turckheim plain.
Herrenweg terroir comes from very well drained and hot soil. This shows up the characteristics of each variety with power and length that is very agreeable and subtle. It's a wine to be drunk on its fruit when 5 to 8 years old. Its subtlety appears as "pine needle".

GRAND CRU HENGST in WINTZENHEIM
Oligocene marl limestone.
Moderately to steeply sloping south.
Hengst is a terroir which shows itself in power and length, but which is fairly discreet when young. Its minerality appears after 5 to 10 years in bottle.
The chalk gives power, the marl excitement, and its exposure gives a grilled, toasted character that seems spicy, almost mentholated. |

GRAND CRU STEINGRÜBLER in WETTOLSHEIM
Oligocene limestone with clay, marl, and coarse sand of micaceous granitic origin.
Moderate to steep South to South-East slope.
Steingrübler is a complex terroir thanks to the rich diversity of its makeup. It is a full bodied powerful and mineral wine. The clay shows in citrus flavours, the chalk gives power, marl, the subtlety and the granitic sand, minerality (hydrocarbons). The terroir dominates the varietal character. Its subtlety is expressed in a taste of “crushed cherry stone”.
Of our three Grand Crus, it's Steingrübler which is the first to show its secrets.

GRAND CRU PFERSIGBERG in EGUISHEIM
Limestone with clay and marl on Triassic fossilized shells.
Gently sloping East.
Pfersigberg is a terroir which shows itself in power, though hidden in youth. Its wines are unctuous, even spicy, with iodine hints. Its unctuosity comes from the presence of silt, spice and power come from the limestone while the shells give the iodine
.
Its easterly exposure and its position at the beginning of a valley favour the development of noble rot (botrytis) and give its wines aromas of super ripe grapes. |
